Scotch 82/SCC of 1982 Wraps 2016

Summary for Equal Chief Editors

We are all Equal Chief Editors of our Scotch 82 End of Year Wraps!  What does that mean exactly?

Let's start with "End of Year Wraps"...

Once a year we Wrap up the year that's been, and focus on what activities our lads participate in, Using Social Media, to help our whole year make our next 10 year reunion, The Big One, in 2022.

During 2016, we focused on the Proposal that our "Scotch College Class of 1982" facebook page use Overarching Policies & Procedures from the Old Scotch Collegians Association.  It was envisaged that OSCA's Social Media Strategic Plan would outline how to go about Creating a "Scotch College Class of ...." Social Media Site, like a facebook page or group, and how to Manage it.

In mid 2015 a Message was sent to OSCA's facebook page requesting an Outline of Policies & Procedures.  Whilst we were waiting for that to be Actioned, we created an Album to accommodate what we saw as being working OSCA Policies & Procedures from postings on their Old Scotch Collegians' Association facebook page.

https://www.facebook.com/oldscotchboys/

By October 2016, we still hadn't heard anything back from OSCA, but we had put together a reasonable OSCA Policies & Procedures Outline that for all intent and purposes looked very similar to our own working Scotch College Class of 1982/Scotch 82 Policies and Procedures, but with one major difference: "Equal Admins".

Our "Scotch 82/Scotch College Class of 1982 Wraps 2015" goes into more detail about what we foresaw our Equal Admins do in comparison with having OSCA Overarching Policies & Procedures for facebook Page Managers or Group Admins.  The differences were also fairly easily identifiable in the observable role of our OSCA Representative, Mike Poynter, and our Reunion Committee.

Some in our year had hoped a greater sense of Inclusiveness would come about with a completely new facebook Page, and not only with Overarching OSCA Policies & Procedures, but perhaps in the form that more closely resembles what some other Years had chosen using the "Scotch College Class of ....' naming template.

In our ongoing desire to find the most Equal & Inclusive format, Management approach, and Policies & Procedures for our facebook Page(s) and Groups, we messaged the Proposal to OSCA, and when we did finally get an answer, it can be summed up in two words: "Great Trust".

How we are "Equal Chief Editors"...

With Social Media roles, or role functions, that we might identify with, our year simply has a choice of Having a Go at what we would like to do individually and together so that No Body is Left Behind, and we can give it a go on behalf of our year too!  Choosing to be a Equal Chief Editors is an Equal Opportunity, and Equal Opportunity is at the heart of Scotch 82's Equality & Inclusiveness approach!!

We are still waiting a (follow up) reply from OSCA, via facebook Messaging, for a List of Classmates Names, Role Description for OSCA Year Group Reps, and Role Description for Reunion Committees.  How you can best help our Classmates with the roles they have taken on, on behalf our of Year, it best discussed with them personally.

Scotch 82 Social Media means you can have a go at being a Representative for our year and speaking to OSCA on our year's behalf.  Similarly, if you'd like to help organize or run a get together that's going to benefit our year as a whole, using Social Media, then why not give it a go?

Customization is what takes place when a Social Media platform, like facebook, isn't an exact fit for our Year's Social Media needs!  Thank-you to those lads in our year who have made Action Requests for our Scotch 82 page, or Proposed and Seconded one our Scotch 82 Groups, to help meet our needs. (Numerous examples of what our classmates have achieved, using Social Media, can be found in this Wrap).

This important Question was asked during the year: "Why does our Scotch 82 facebook page/groups need Guidelines and/or a Reformat every now and then in the form of milestones, can't it just run itself without any management or oversight?"

Thank-you Active Admins and Honorary Admins for your ongoing support throughout 2016 in helping to Customize our Scotch 82 (Policies & Procedures) Guidelines Draft for facebook Pages & Groups, which is to be published soon.

Looking ahead to 2017!

We've just had a big year of focusing on management roles, policies & procedure considerations, equality and inclusiveness, and what implications there might be for using agenda items for our Scotch 82 Groups.

Next year, we'll consolidate on all the lessons we have learned together, and a Reformat of our Scotch 82 Page will take place by bringing onto one facebook Page the "best of" elements of our Transitional "Scotch College Class of 1982" and our Two Milestone strong "Scotch 82".

So what will Scotch 82 look like a the end of next year?

At this stage Scotch 82 will most likely look the same, but there is an opportunity to change it's name. The "About" section of our Scotch 82 facebook page will most likely get an update, and a couple of new albums will most likely be added to help with keeping it easy for all Classmates to reconnect and stay in touch.

I (Mick Arnott) Propose a New Album to be called: "Scotch 82 Guidelines".

Scotch 82 Guidelines will help us to consolidate our current experience with Scotch 82 Internal Procedures, like how to go about proposing a Scotch 82 Page/Group/Album, Backup's, Security Tips, etc.

If you have an objection to this new album, then please make us all aware of this on our Scotch 82 timeline, or message our Scotch 82 Page Manager (Mick Arnott ->  https://www.facebook.com/michael.arnott.98) and he/I will help you to do so!

I (Mick Arnott) Propose a New Album to be called: "Scotch 82 Social Media Sites".

Management of our Scotch 82 Friendship Group will change hands from Michael Arnott (writing) to Andrew Evans, Scotch 82 Businesses Group will change from being a Temporary initiative to becoming an ongoing Group, and Group Admins positions will always be available to those who are interested!

Supporting & Caring for those who were abused, an expansion of our organizing abilities for our Campfire & BBQ Nights, as well as finding more effective ways of communicating with OSCA about the welfare of Old Boys as per OSCA's Articles of Association, are also vitally important considerations.  (See OSCA Annual Reports -> http://oscanet.com.au/#annualreports)

There is always an opportunity for you to make a contribution to End of Year Wraps, our Chief Editor Report, or to Customize our Scotch 82 facebook Page(s)/Groups, as well as all our Social Media
Sites, so please don't hold back, we all look forward to you joining in, when you are able.

It's fantastic to be helping each other continue to reach those who have had been doing it tough getting back in touch with their Old School, as we head towards our next 10 year reunion, in 2022!

Thank you for another great year Equals!

Michael Arnott
Equal Chief Editor

Welcome.

Don't you just love a Nice flashback?

Thanks Ian C Mackenzie (and Scot Lacey) for this beauty.  It's an original from "Satura 1982"!

Evolving since 1982, in 2012, accompanied by the sound of something like a clap of thunder, our 30 year reunion struck two classmates through a portal called facebook, and
it wasn't "Budgie & Wombat" coming back to the future...

"30 Years On" reports from the Cardinal Club hit the Scotch 82 Wall, just as Mick & Geoff got the site up and running!

Scotch 82 versions changed, and when the graffiti albums cleared, Classmates could clearly perceive potential!  Our prayers heard, we took tentative steps, and hackers knocked us to the next Milestone!

To cut a long story short, Equal Admins took the Helm, and we've charted our way forward.

Scotch 82 Friendship Group.

Andrew Evans and Jim Glaspole (pictured above), Proposed and Seconded our Scotch 82 Friendship Group.  Two very affable lads, Jim and Andy have lead the way in Support and Care, and have not shied away from hearing stories of abuse to our lads.

2016's Campfire & BBQ Night at Andrew Evan's property was another great success this year...

Welfare of Old Boys is also important to Scotch's Principal Tom Batty, and Men's Health, Spiritual, Mental & Physical is what contributes to helping Stop Men dying too young!

Michael Jones (pictured above) did it again during Movember, reaching his fun-raising goal of $2000, and our "Mo Bro" has been able to groom his Mo to raise over $7000 since 2014.  Great stuff Jonesy!   Mike has his own (very handsome) Mo Space link ->  https://au.movember.com/mospace/11228929

Additionally, ahead in 2017, we are looking to raise further Men's Health awareness with OSCA's Honorary Chaplain (pictured above) and Graham's team at OSCA's Life Transitions, who have already been supplementing Scotch 82's Friendship Support and Care in a collaborative manner since 2012.

If you'd like to get along to a Christmas Service this year, Graham will conducting services at Blackburn Presbyterian church, in Gardenia St. More details here ->  http://findapresbyterianchurch.com/church/vic-blackburn-presbyterian-church

Scotch 82 looks to Honour One and Honour All!

The post that reached the most people during 2016, on our (Transitional) Scotch College Class of 1982 facebook page was an article we shared from "The Age" newspaper about Thomas Page, who was sexually abused in the Boarding House, in 2007.

Those abused in our year have conveyed similar difficulties they are having getting back in touch with their Old School, just like Thomas.  We sincerely hope and pray that all those abused are doing well in their recovery!

Scotch 82 Active Admins.

Would Scotch 82 be a success without our Active Admins?

I am very grateful for the effort that those who want to help to continue to make Scotch 82 a success put in via our Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group!

Mark Learner and I (pictured above) Proposed and Second this group, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark for also becoming an Admin for the group to help with it's Management.

Dean Crow, Andrew Negri, Andrew Evans, Bruce Roscrow, Charles Su, Michael Jones, Richard Gorringe, Chris Howlett, Cameron Cantley-Smith, Ian C Mackenzie, David Klinger, Hamish Bayston, Robert Stock, and Andrew Griffiths, have all joined in with our group to support of our year by making their contributions in the very best interests of our whole year!

2016 was a busy year for our Active Admins, concentrating on identifying OSCA's Policies & Procedures, and Transitioning via our Temporary Scotch College Class of 1982 facebook page & (Temp) group, which also included Jim Glaspole and Mike Poynter, towards OSCA's Social Media Strategic Plan.

For a more detailed look at this transition, please see "Summary for Equal Chief-Editors" at the beginning of our Wrap.

I can not overstate the value of the support our Active Admins have given us during the difficulties and the challenges of reconnecting with our classmates that so many of us are facing, and in finding the right Social Media mix, nor can we forget the support of OSCA and their Life Transitions Program!

Most Liked Post for 2016!

Our most Liked post on Scotch 82/Scotch College Class of 1982 was about this handsome Gent, Scotch 82's Stuart Hamilton, whose likeness was captured here by wife Lucy Hamilton, describing Stu's effort as: "He got the Best and Fairest for his old farts hockey team".

If you'd like to read more reviews or details on Stuart achievement, please click the link under this colorful (Toorak East Malvern Hockey Club) award record!  :D

Speaking of Pink, Colin Sarantis and Pink the Pharaoh Hound were featured as our 2016 Melbourne Cup Post special!

Also very well received on Scotch 82 was this Flashback of our 1982 Collegian "School Leaders" Photo (thanks to Mark A. Learner), which verifies that Stuart Hamilton was Captain of Athletics, and not Hockey!  For further insight, please click on the photo's link! ;-)

Financial Speaking, we again this year remain "DEBT FREE!", thanks to the generous contribution of our Classmates valuable time and resources!  Our 2016 - 2017 financial year is also shaping up to be another prosperous half ahead for Scotch 82!

Scotch 82 Businesses.

David Klinger's Action Request on our Scotch 82 facebook Page Wall has lead to our Scotch 82 Businesses Group, but not only that, our classmates took on board all David put forward and it's working! Thanks David for taking the initiative to speak up and support the success of Scotch 82!

Coming in all shapes and sizes, Scotch 82 Business Opportunities can be recommended, and our first step towards highlighting these type of opportunities came in the form of our Scotch 82 facebook album: "Scotch 82 Recommended".  Please click in the link below to be taken to our album.

https://www.facebook.com/pg/Scotch1982/photos/?tab=album&album_id=599468603517845

"Scotch 82 Recommended" gives our classmates the opportunity to highlight each other's business goods and services, like with Mike Poynter's "MCP Group".  Given Mike's long service to our lads both as our OSCA Rep and to Old Boys in business, I'm more than willing to recommend Mike's Asset Protection and further services.

http://www.mcpgroup.com.au/

After further consultation with David Klinger, we were able to identify some other Sharing Business Opportunities Requirements  he had also put some thought to, following his Action Request.

Our Temporary Scotch 82 Business Landing page is "Scotch 82"!

Classmates who are interested in sharing their business opportunities, including their Goods & Services, currently can send Myself (Mick Arnott) a Like Request for their business' facebook page, and as a Scotch 82 Equal Admin I'm able to the Like your page on Scotch 82!

https://www.facebook.com/Scotch1982/photos/a.599468603517845.1073741833.143768379087872/726685990796105/?type=3&theater

So far our Scotch 82's "LIKED BY THIS PAGE" section displays the following business pages, with more to come in 2017!

Sharing Businesses Opportunities for classmates has advanced further in 2016 with out Temporary "Scotch 82 Businesses" Initiative now Proposed and Seconded by David Klinger and Cameron Cantley-Smith to be an ongoing group...

If you have an objection to this facebook Group becoming ongoing, then please make you objection openly on Scotch 82, or you can message Me for help to do so (Mick Arnott -> https://www.facebook.com/michael.arnott.98).

Gratitude!

2016 has been our fourth year of Scotch 82, and this year I again feel a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity we have to be of service to one another, in partnership, for the benefit of all our Classmates!

Everyone of our year has had to face up to the reality that not all of us came through our time at Scotch unscathed.

We therefore again, during 2016, took up the challenge to speak-up for those who need to be heard and represented to OSCA, in the greater interest of the whole of our Scotch Family's Welfare!

I would like to say big "THANK-YOU" on behalf of our lads, and express my sincere heartfelt gratitude to our Support Team, who have especially provided Care & Support for those who are recovering.

Jim Glaspole, Andrew Evans, OSCA's Honorary Chaplain Graham Bradbeer, and members of our Scotch 82 Friendship Group have provided a safe atmosphere in which the sharing of our hurts can be fully expressed, and heard with sympathy, compassion and empathy!

Attending a Christian School means we expected a high standard of Teaching and Christian love, and for those who I know to have sort an apology from Scotch, for what happened to them as an innocent and blameless child, they have received one from the current Principal, Tom Batty, for what happened to them.

Jesus came into the world to undo the works of the Devil, but not as a fully grown Man, Military Dictator, perhaps futuristic Alien Figure emerging from a Space craft.

Instead He came down from Heaven, in the form of a vulnerable baby boy, and grew up to become a humble servant of humanity, and for this we can be externally grateful, when celebrate Christmas with our family and friends!

"Father God, thank-you for the gift of your one and only begotten Son, whose birth we celebrate at Christmas time!  Thank-you that you loved us first, and also for our Scotch Family, and in particular our Classmates!  Please heal those who are hurting, and bless each and every one of us with good health and prosperity, so that we may be a blessing to others also, by the power of your Holy Spirit. Thank-you God for answered prayers!  Hallelujah! Glory to you God! In Jesus name, Amen!"

Thanks to news.china.com.au for the Melbourne images.

your servant,

Mick Arnott
